how to persuade and influence without being overly aggressive

Assertive perception

The assessment indicated that I might be more aggressive than required when other peoples’ opinions contradict my own. Thus I need to come up with ways of ensuring that I am constructively assertive. This will involve being persuasive and tolerant as I have to strive to influence the outcome while considering other peoples’ needs. Additionally, it will dictate that I will not base by ideas on past precedents that may not be applicable in current situations as it will avoid confrontations with my partners in any conversation (De, 2013).

Another way is by watching those in my radar by recognizing the participants in a conversation and respecting their opinions and ideologies based on their character. This helps us to realize the differences between individual characters and how we can benefit from them depending on the situation and also have constructive conversations.

The above strategies should help me to overcome my weaknesses during interactions with others. They can be realized through procedural implementation and timelines that are deliverable in any context given the dynamics that characterize a learning environment. It’s important to also note that interactions with others is also a learning process that should be treated as such. As a result, I should be able to realize the preferred change for the purpose of ensuring excellent communication (Green& Chartered Institute of Public Relations, 2016).

  1. Action Plan

The action plan will serve as the end product of this self-analysis exercise as it should involve implementing the stated strategies which will in turn be essential to realizing the desired outcomes within the stipulated time lime are as follows:

Undertaking a communication course that will involve developing active listening and other essential skills within the first three weeks of implementation process. This is important in helping to apply construction assertion in a learning environment and helping to smooth out the adaptation process to any environment.

Facilitating my career development into the employment sector by undertaking an advanced postgraduate communication course at CQU. This will also help me to close out all loopholes that might have been unaddressed in the course of the implementation process. The employment sector requires effective communication so as to take advantage of any arising opportunities.

Within four weeks, I expect to have also familiarized myself with various ways in which I can improve my personal communication techniques. This will be done by reading archive materials like relevant magazines and books. Such materials contain information for personal improvement in communication and exposes one to situations that would require applications of skills learnt in various environments. They are an important source of information on how to adapt to different situations and on ways to become competent

I will keep a personal diary to keep track of progress made by writing down developments achieved. The diary will comprise a basis for making improvements and for making corrections in case I divert off the track. Changes will also be considered in case the progress is not as desired or as per stipulations put in place.

Additionally, Identification of a mentor who I consider relevant will be critical since he/she will provide a sense of direction in the activities that I will undertake. For this case, I will use the head of the CQU communication department. He will be instrumental in identifying whether I am consistent with the training schedule and assist me to identify areas that need adjustments accordingly.

The Gantt chart

The Gantt chart is a chart that is used to illustrate a project schedule and shows the start and finish dates of a project. Here, it will be used to measure the deliverables at a given time since the entire implementation process will last two months. Some of the programs might run concurrently meaning that it is likely to take less time than scheduled. After completion, I will measure the improvement based on my interaction behavior with others. A positive indication would be ideal but should the results be negative, I will come up with relevant measures to correct it.

what is “the capitalization rate” in the investment business?

In 2016, Boot Tech.com was started and seeks to raise $1 million. The CEO, Bill Carson projected the valuation cash flow to be $60,000 in Year 2017, $200,000 in Year 2018, $300,000 in Year 2019, $400,000 in Year 2020, and $800,000 in Year 2021, which is the stepping year. Mary Presswood, a venture capitalist agreed to invest the $1 million to the new venture with a discounted rate of return to be 50 percent. The capitalization rate is 20 percent. Currently the firm has 1000 shares. Answer the following questions (10 points each).

Q1: What is the terminal value of Boot Tech.com

Q2: Calculate the pre-money valuation using the Discounted Cash Flow method.

Q3: What percentage of share should be given to the investor?

After further market research, Mary finds that Bill’s valuation cash flow estimates may not be accurate. As a result, she thinks it is better to use the P-E ratio method. It is known that a comparable company traded at a price earnings ratio of 30. Mary is convinced that the earning in the stepping year, Year 2021 is at least $500,000. However, Mary also finds that the actual venture needs may well exceed $1 million, predicting that Bill would probably seek for another $2 million at the end of Year 2019. Round 2 investors normally have a hurdle rate (rate of return) around 30 percent in recognition of the progress the venture has made from 2016. Mary still wants to invest $1 million for 50 percent rate of return in 2015. Answer the following questions (10 points each).

Q4: Using the P-E ratio method, how much is the business worth in Year 2021?

Q5: What is the pre-money valuation in Year 2019 for the Round 2 investor?

Q6: How much equity in percentage should the Round 2 investor obtain for her $2 million investment?

Q7: The percentage of equity taken by the Round 2 investors can be considered as a dilution for Mary. What is the after-dilution pre-money valuation for Mary in Year 2016?

Q8: From Question 6, how many new shares should be issued to Mary?

Q9: From Question 5 and 7, how many new shares should be issued to the Round 2 investor? (Note that m= the pre-existing shares + the shares issued to Mary).

Q10: From Question 8 and 9, calculate the price per share for the Round 2 investor and for Mary, respectively. Explain two reasons why the price for the Round 2 investor is higher or lower than that for Mary.

How to develop critical competencies in leadership skills while undertaking academic endeavors

Personal reflection

In personal and academic development, a practical reflection is an important tool as it aids learners to develop critical competencies in leadership skills while undertaking academic endeavors. Personal reflection involves assessing of one’s actions, principles, attitudes and behavior. From my personal reflection, I noticed my lack of proactive approach to problems due to the fear of making mistakes and losing opportunities. My confidence would play an immense role in my decisions since if I realized that am against something, am likely to avoid approaching the challenge. This is an element that probably limits my thinking (De, 2013). The results of the study reveal that I have to improve my active listening and assertiveness discernments especially as exposed in interviews, group works and in the course of my learning experience. Additionally, my dominance in conversations should be more regulated.

  1. Literature review

It is imperative that I improve my active listening and self-assured perception skills as revealed from the findings. The weaknesses are noticeable throughout the results received from my peers. Previous studies show that feedback an individual gives in a conversation is influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Personal attributes and individual psychological set up are important especially in a show of confidence and/or composure. For instance, a confident and composed person tends to present themselves appropriately as opposed to those who are less so. According to (Biafore, 2013), such people are likely to be shaken by the moments since they anticipate the outcome.

The Australian Psychological Association reveals that such motivators are prime influential determinants of anyone’s outward character. It is important for individuals to understand their strengths and weaknesses since by doing so, they are able to display their strengths while showing appropriate behavior by doing so, and one should also underline their weaknesses so as to understand how to correct their flaws. Besides, individuals also close in the gaps in the most preferred behavior and characters. According to (De, 2013), failure to do this will plunge a person into uncertainty hence being tense and less confident while trying to interact with those around them.

Active Listening

Active listening is a crucial trait since it allows a learner/listener to pay attention to the speaker, understand the responses and easily remember the contents. In my personal assessment of my communication abilities, I realized that this was one area that I needed to improve. I learnt that I could be able to obtain important information, understand them and enjoy learning by being an active participant/listener. Besides, I also realized that my concentration levels were very low thus making it difficult to make agreements with others. This, also, affected my ability to grasp new ideas in class since I was unable to fully concentrate throughout the lessons. To tackle this problem I have formulated new ways of checking these habits before they escalate and end up affecting my endeavors. Some of the ways I came up with to address this problem are as shown below:

Paying Attention.

Paying attention involves concentrating keenly and having the ability to fully acknowledge the speaker’s messages. It involves the ability to understand both the speaker’s verbal and non-verbal cues. Nonverbal cues that are important include but are not limited to; maintaining eye contact and paying attention to the body language of a speaker. It also involves the willingness and ability to keep away distractive thoughts that are not relevant to facilitate better understanding of content.

Show Them That Am Listening.

Good body language to show the speaker that you are keen and listening is also important because it serves to encourage the speaker by showing them you understand. Such gestures such as the nodding of the head where appropriate are an encouragement to the speaker and also crucial to one understanding the information being disseminated.

Provide Feedback

Feedback is an essential part of any conversation since it assists the audience to appropriately understand a message. Feedback is essential since it helps both parties understand that the information being passed has been fully understood or not. It is important to frame the feedback or response message in appropriate manner and pay key attention to detail. It may involve the asking of appropriate questions which serve to clarify ambiguous points. Correct feedback reveals to the communicator that am paying the utmost attention to the content being given (Green& Chartered Institute of Public Relations, 2016). According to Green& Chartered Institute of Public Relations, 2016, having a summary of the content on a periodical basis enables one to have a glance of the whole discussion since only the valuable pointers are reflected on thus quickly remembering the content of the conversation.

what are the major challenges emergency respondents should always be prepared to face

Develop a PowerPoint presentation of 6–7 slides that provides details about your plan when planning a hurricane disaster response.

Include speaker notes of 200–300 words that will be used when presenting the plan to your superiors.

  • Who will comprise your planning committee? Explain.
    • Identify public- and private-sector partner agencies and elected officials (if any) that should serve on the planning committee.
  • What are the component parts of the plan (be specific and detailed)? Explain.
  • What participating agencies may be more or less involved in which parts of the plan development? Explain.
  • Are there subject matter experts (SMEs) or other entities that should be involved in any one specific area of the plan development? Explain.
  • Based upon the emergency management concept of incident management that includes the phases of preparedness and mitigation, response, and recovery, identify the actions that will need to be taken in each phase as they relate to the hazard you have selected.
    • Identify the major challenges that the community and responders will encounter when responding to the hazard.
    • What solutions exist (e.g., mutual aid, contract services) to overcome those challenges? Explain in detail.
    • What should be the short- and long-term recovery goals of the community following this event’s occurrence?

This Power point needs to be a draft (not too polished) I will have to submit a final Power point next week.

who should comprise the planning committee dealing with a Hurricane Disaster event?

Develop a paper of 3–4 pages that addresses the following questions during a Hurricane Disaster event.

Who will comprise your planning committee? Explain.
Identify public- and private-sector partner agencies and elected officials (if any) that should serve on the planning committee.
What are the component parts of the plan (be specific and detailed)? Explain.
What participating agencies may be more or less involved in which parts of the plan development? Explain.

Provide 3 references minimum and APA stye paper.

what is the remedy if the jury’s action is outside of its scope?

The deliverable length for this assignment is 4- 6 pages long.

The role of the jury is to apply the law as the judge has instructed. In this case, the defendant was charged with possession of marijuana, based on a search of his car following a traffic stop for speeding. The police did not charge him with the speeding, but only possession of marijuana. The jury was instructed accordingly. During their deliberations, the jurors discussed their anger at the police and prosecutors for using the speeding just to stop the defendant’s car and search it and decided that they wanted to send a message to police and prosecutors that they should be focusing on “real” crimes and leave people in possession of marijuana alone, even though it was still illegal in their state. Their belief was that voting “not guilty” would be a message to prosecutors and the police.

Review the materials provided, and discuss the following:

  • Did the jury in this instance act outside of its scope?
  • Is there any remedy for the jury’s actions?

is there a scope within which a jury should act?
